1992: First Avenue Downtown Danceteria, Minneapolis - Supporting Sonic Youth

I was there, Royal Trux stayed at my house (albeit the upstairs neighbors in the duplex, all the benefits, none of the responsibilities). This may have been one of the first all ages shows in MN that allowed alcohol to be sold to adults. The success of my production company, Sonic Warp, gave MInneapolis clubs the incentive to change alcohol laws.

I love telling this story, so having a new blog to tell it on delights me to no end. I LOVE harmonic percolators. I was fortunate it enough to be gifted a Pussy Fuzz hp (as described in this video of Steve Albini) by Jon Spencer when I put on Pussy Galore’s last show in Minneapolis in 1990. Naturally he could have been giving me Hagerty or Wolf’s pedal but the story flows better if we all just assume it actually was Spencer’s. “Mr. Bill” has confirmed that this is indeed an original and thus one of the four mentioned in the video. If you want the schematic just “ask” for it. It was a great show. My friends Babes in Toyland played (as they commonly did), Babel 17 was legendary darksider Joseph Martin’s follow up to Dark Carnival, and Neomort was a short lived but brilliant angry noise rock band from Minneapolis. Pedal and flier for the Pussy Galore show below.

I put on Pussy Galore’s last show in Minneapolis, MN. Line up was Jon Spencer, Neil Hagerty, Kurt Wolf, and Bob Bert. After it was over Jon Spencer gave me his Pussy Fuzz pedal. That is my friend Bob Brustman on the poster, he hates cats.
